Published Date: 5/11/2026

Rule

Summary

From May 8 to May 11, 2026, the Coast Guard is setting up a temporary security zone on the Ohio River in Cincinnati to keep everyone safe during a special visit by Secret Service-protected guests. Boats can’t enter, pass through, or anchor in this area unless they get permission from the Coast Guard. This means river traffic will be limited for a few days, but it’s all about keeping people safe without any extra costs to the public.

Temporary Ohio River Security Zone

From 12:01 a.m. EDT on May 8, 2026 through 11:59 p.m. on May 11, 2026, all navigable waters of the Ohio River between mile marker (MM) 461 and MM 473 (the entire width of the river) are a security zone. You may not enter, transit through, or anchor in that zone unless the Captain of the Port Ohio Valley (COTP) or a designated Coast Guard representative specifically authorizes you to do so.

How to Request Entry Permission

If you need to enter the security zone, you must get permission from the Captain of the Port Ohio Valley or their designated representative. To request permission, contact them on VHF-FM channel 16 or by telephone at 1-800-253-7465, and you must comply with any lawful orders given by those officials.

Enforcement Times Will Be Broadcast

The security zone will only be enforced at certain times when visiting dignitaries and security personnel are present during May 8–11, 2026. The Captain of the Port Ohio Valley will issue broadcast notices to mariners to announce the specific enforcement times.
