Named Tribes May Request Repatriation

The U.S. Department of the Air Force at F.E. Warren Air Force Base says two Native American human remains are culturally affiliated with specific tribes including the Cheyenne and Arapaho and several others. Those tribes listed in the notice may submit written requests to receive the remains, and repatriation may occur on or after June 11, 2026; requests must be sent to Ms. Karin Schubert at Building 321, 300 Vesle Drive, F.E. Warren AFB, WY 82005 or by the email provided in the notice.

Other Tribes or Descendants Can Compete to Claim

Any lineal descendant or Indian Tribe not named in the notice may also request repatriation if they show by a preponderance of the evidence that they are affiliated. If competing requests are received, F.E. Warren AFB will determine the most appropriate requestor before repatriation, and joint requests are treated as a single request.

Two Remains Identified; No Objects or Hazards

F.E. Warren AFB identified human bone fragments representing two individuals in March 2024 believed removed from sites 48LA106 and 48LA265 in Laramie County between 1983 and 1984. The notice states there are no associated funerary objects and there is no apparent treatment of the remains with hazardous substances.
