Summary

The government is asking for your thoughts on keeping a form that helps subcontractors request bonds when working on federal projects. This form helps agencies like the DoD, NASA, and GSA make sure subcontractors are reliable and financially secure. They want to extend the use of this form for three more years, so if you’re involved in federal contracts, your input matters before July 13, 2026!

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 1 costs, 2 mixed.

OMB Approval Extended Request for Form

The agencies ask OMB to extend approval to use the Prospective Subcontractor Requests for Bonds form for three additional years beyond the current expiration date of October 31, 2026. If you work on federal construction contracts, this means the same form would stay in use unless OMB denies the extension; comments are due by July 13, 2026.

Prime Contractors Must Give Bond Copies

Under the FAR clause at 52.228-12, prime contractors must promptly provide a copy of a payment bond when a prospective subcontractor or supplier requests it for a construction contract covered by 40 U.S.C. chapter 31. This requirement applies to prospective subcontractors offering to furnish labor or material on such federally bonded construction contracts.

Estimated Paperwork Burden for Respondents

The General Services Administration reports that for this collection there are 279 respondents, 698 total annual responses, and 238 total annual burden hours. Those numbers represent the GSA estimate of the time burden tied to using the Prospective Subcontractor Requests for Bonds form.
