Analyzed Economic Effects
4 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 2 costs, 1 mixed.
Estimated Compliance Cost Per Operator
The FAA estimates this AD affects 1,945 U.S.-registered airplanes and that revising the maintenance or inspection program takes an average of 90 work-hours per operator. The FAA estimates an average total cost per operator of $7,650 (90 work-hours × $85 per hour), and states no parts are required and no downtime costs are expected.
Addresses Fuel-Tank Ignition Risk
The AD was issued to address the potential for ignition sources inside fuel tanks that, together with flammable fuel vapors, could cause a fuel tank explosion and the loss of the airplane. The required airworthiness-limitations changes are intended to reduce that safety risk for passengers and crew.
Must Revise Maintenance Programs
If you operate affected Airbus A318–A321 series airplanes certificated on or before November 4, 2024, you must revise your maintenance or inspection program to incorporate new or more restrictive airworthiness limitations. The AD requires completing that revision within 90 days after the AD effective date (by September 16, 2026) and doing the work in accordance with EASA AD 2025-0033 and EASA AD 2024-0047 as specified in this rule.
Expands Which Airplanes Are Covered
This AD expands applicability to additional Airbus models (including A319-173N and A321-253NY) and applies to listed A318, A319, A320, and A321 variants with an original airworthiness certificate or export certificate issued on or before November 4, 2024. If your airplane model is on the list, the AD's requirements now apply to you.
