Remove defaulted federal loans from credit
If enacted, this bill would require the Secretary of Education, a guaranty agency, or the loan holder to ask consumer reporting agencies to remove a defaulted Title IV loan from your credit record once you repay the full amount due. The request must also remove any related adverse information tied to that default. This applies only to loans made, insured, or guaranteed under Title IV of the Higher Education Act. Households would likely see improved credit histories after full repayment.
