Stronger protections for federal prison staff
This bill would require the Bureau of Prisons to carry out all 2023 Inspector General recommendations within 90 days of enactment. If any item is not done by then, the Bureau would have to tell Congress why and give a timeline. One year after the Bureau finishes those steps, the Inspector General would collect and study data on inmate-on-staff sexual harassment and assault for fiscal years 2022 through 2025. The study would also review punishments used in the five years before enactment and report findings to Congress and the Attorney General. Within one year after receiving that study, the Attorney General would issue national standards to prevent, reduce, and punish these acts in Bureau facilities.
