Public rules for trade commission operations

Beginning 07/01/2026, members serve two-year terms and can be reappointed. Vacancies are filled by the original appointing authority. Members serve without pay. The chair is chosen from the legislative members at the first meeting and every two years. The commission meets at least quarterly across the state under the open meetings law. Its records are public under the public records law. A majority of members is a quorum, and a majority of that quorum can act. It must report to the governor and legislature within one year of organizing. After that, it reports each year by February 1 on meetings, activities, and expenses.

New Iowa-Ireland trade commission starts

Beginning 07/01/2026, the law creates the Iowa-Ireland trade commission to promote trade and investment with Ireland. It has eight appointed members: two senators, two representatives, one trade association member, one state authority member, and two private industry members. The legislative appointees must know Irish affairs or trade with Ireland. A state authority provides administrative support. The commission promotes trade and investment, recommends joint policy, supports business and academic exchanges, and encourages infrastructure investment.
