Registry for Mainers trained at Gagetown
If you trained at Base Gagetown and live in Maine, or lived here then, you can join a voluntary registry. The bureau collects your service name, birth date, service dates, branch, unit, job, training dates at Gagetown, and health conditions. Next of kin can share records and cause of death for a deceased person. Your data is confidential and shared only with your written consent (or next of kin if deceased) and only for chemical‑exposure health research. The bureau will reach out and work with veterans’ groups, VA medical centers, Maine Veterans’ Homes, and the Maine National Guard, and may use or contract research to study health effects.
Commission to study Gagetown health harms
The law reestablishes a 12-member commission to study health harms tied to Base Gagetown. Members include lawmakers, veterans who trained there, a family member, claims experts, and health or environmental scientists. Appointments must be made within 30 days of the law’s effective date. The commission can request needed records from the U.S. Department of Defense and other federal agencies. Legislative Council staff help when the Legislature is not in session, and a final report is due by November 4, 2026, which may lead to bills in 2027.
One-time $250,000 to build registry
The state provides a one-time $250,000 from the General Fund in fiscal year 2026-27 to Veterans Services to create the Base Gagetown Training Registry. The money covers consulting and setup costs. The funds do not lapse and carry forward until used.
