School dental care for all Maine kids

The health department provides preventive dental care in every Maine public school by January 1, 2027. It sets up a mobile dental care model in each public health district to bring care outside permanent clinics. The department forms partnerships with schools and private groups so mobile teams can offer preventive and disease-intervention services at school. Partners help with equipment, supplies, logistics, and operations to launch these services.

Funding for school mobile dental care

The Maine CDC receives $325,000 from the General Fund in fiscal year 2026-27. The money pays contractors for mobile dental services in public schools and for training primary care providers. Funding is $0 in 2025-26.

Pediatricians trained on infant dental care

The oral health program trains primary care providers to give simple dental care to infants and young children. Licensed dental professionals deliver the training. The program uses From the First Tooth and American Academy of Pediatrics guidance. It promotes silver diamine fluoride in primary care to stop cavities.
