More bonding power for Maine housing
The law raises the cap on mortgage purchase bonds backed by key reserve funds to $4 billion outstanding. It also lets the housing authority issue other mortgage bonds backed by insurance, federal contracts, bank guarantees, or similar credit support. For those bonds, sales can be up to $100 million each calendar year, and total outstanding cannot be above $300 million. These changes expand financing for home loans and housing projects across Maine.
