Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Maine sets child vaccine list yearly

The state immunization board sets the vaccine list each year. By January 1, it picks vaccines for the year starting July 1. It must use low-cost purchase options, health department advice, and clinical and cost analyses. It may use guidance from pediatric, family medicine, and obstetrics groups, but not replace CDC standards. The board reviews new vaccines and updates the list quickly. This shapes which shots families can get through the state program.

Liability shield for pharmacists giving vaccines

If you are a Maine-licensed pharmacist who meets section 13832 and board rules, you are not liable in civil negligence for certain shots given outside CDC guidance. This immunity applies only when you follow State guidance or guidelines from pediatrics, family medicine, or obstetrics groups. It lowers malpractice risk when you follow those rules.

State can fund kids' vaccines, with limits

The board can ask the State to pay for vaccines for children who qualify for the federal program. Requests cover vaccines that meet the board’s list rules. The board files the request with the State Budget Officer, and lawmakers must approve it. If required program assessments do not cover vaccine costs, the State does not pay the gap. That can limit access or raise costs when assessments fall short.
