Higher pay for funeral transports and wait time

If your funeral home transports a body to Augusta at the Chief Medical Examiner's request, the Office pays higher rates. It pays $135 for the first 25 miles. It then pays $2.20 per mile for miles 26-50, and $2.00 per mile over 50, while actually transporting the body. If an employee must wait because of the Office's processes, it pays for that time at the hourly wage in Title 26, section 664(1). The law provides $12,000 in 2026-27 (and $0 in 2025-26) to fund these payments.
