Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

Health plans must cover PFAS blood tests

Maine health insurance plans must cover PFAS blood testing when a licensed provider says it is medically necessary. The test is presumed necessary if your provider follows clinical guidelines from the National Academies or a comparable group. This applies to policies issued, delivered, continued, or renewed in Maine on or after January 1, 2027. If your plan started before that date, the coverage starts at your next yearly renewal.

State funds PFAS testing mandate costs

The state sets aside $90,000 from the General Fund for fiscal year 2026-27 to help cover costs from the PFAS testing mandate. This money supports the new coverage that starts January 1, 2027.
