Beginning July 1, 2026, the Department of Correction conducts an education assessment for every felony inmate at intake and at least once a year. The assessment records the highest grade or level finished and interest in continuing or advancing education. The department also completes yearly assessments for anyone serving a felony sentence on or after July 1, 2026. If an inmate is eligible to continue, complete, or advance education, the department provides information on available programs. The notice is in writing or electronic when possible and arrives within 90 days of the assessment.
