Beginning August 1, 2027, public schools and public charter schools cannot sell or serve foods or drinks with certain synthetic dyes in school nutrition programs on school property. The banned dyes are Red 40, Red 3, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Blue 1, Blue 2, and Green 3. For third-party vendors, the rule applies to contracts signed, renewed, or changed on or after August 1, 2027. Items covered by contracts made before that date are allowed.
