Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

More access to childrens outdoor grants

Beginning May 6, 2026, for childrens outdoor recreation and education grants, children means ages 6 through 18. An underserved community includes an economically disadvantaged town, county, or American Indian tribe. For these grants, it also includes communities where children, including those with disabilities, have limited access to outdoor recreation or education. These definitions guide who gets priority and eligibility for the grants.

More projects qualify for outdoor grants

Beginning May 6, 2026, the law broadens what counts as a recreational infrastructure project. Eligible projects now include trails; water recreation; wildlife watching; winter recreation; community parks with outdoor amenities; naturalistic and accessible playgrounds; and access improvements or equipment for disabled or adaptive users. Grant-funded sites must be open to the general public under federal and state rules. No group can hold exclusive access rights.

Changes take effect May 6, 2026

The law takes effect on May 6, 2026. Agencies and grant applicants follow the new definitions and public-access rules starting that date.
