Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 0 costs, 2 mixed.

City officers: discipline and back pay

Beginning May 6, 2026, before a city fires you, suspends you without pay for more than two days, or moves you to a lower‑paid job for discipline, it must give notice, at least two business days to reply in writing, consider your reply, and hear you. If your city has a grievance process, you must finish it first; then you can appeal within 10 calendar days (or within 10 days of the action if no grievance). Hearings are public, and you may bring a lawyer, see evidence, and question witnesses. If you win, you get back pay for unpaid time (minus other earnings) or pay to make up any salary cut; decisions are due within 15 days after the hearing (up to 60 days by agreement) and can be reviewed by the Court of Appeals.

State officers: discipline and appeals

Beginning May 6, 2026, before suspending you over two days, demoting, or firing you for discipline, your agency must give written allegations, at least two business days to reply in writing, consider your reply, and hear you. If you are suspended or discharged, you can appeal to the civil service commission within five days. You may have a public hearing and bring a lawyer. The commission’s decision is final and enforced right away, which can restore your job and pay.
