Beginning May 6, 2026, scholarships can pay tuition, books, fees, and certification tests. They can also fund mentor stipends and counselor assistant stipends. If a district or charter pays 15% of a full‑time job and benefits, it may also pay 35% during training. That 35% covers up to one semester of student teaching for paraprofessionals, or up to two semesters of practicum or internship for counselor assistants or interns.
Beginning May 6, 2026, the state runs the Grow Your Own Educator Pipeline Program. The State Board of Education gives competitive grants to school districts and charter schools. Districts and charters use the money to give scholarships to paraprofessionals, teachers, counselor assistants, and counselor interns to earn licenses, including school psychologist and social worker licenses. The State Board sets award amounts and priorities based on each district’s or charter’s need, and principals nominate candidates. The State Board also writes rules for applications, how money is given out, mentors, and related items under state rulemaking law.
Beginning May 6, 2026, you must live in Utah to be picked. Paraprofessionals qualify with at least one year working for a district or charter, or with equivalent outside experience; only up to 20% of paraprofessional awards can use the outside path. Paraprofessional recipients must keep working for the same district or charter while earning the degree. Teacher candidates qualify if they were paraprofessionals who got a program scholarship, were hired as teachers before finishing training, and now teach for the same district or charter; licensed teachers can also get help to earn a special education endorsement. Enrollment must be in accredited programs: CACREP for counseling master’s, NASP for school psychology, and CSWE for social work.
