The state superintendent may create an advisory technology council and selects the members. The council advises on standards, curriculum, teacher training, emerging tech, and ways to assess student digital skills. The law also defines key parts of the Digital Teaching and Learning Grant Program. The state board provides a digital readiness check that each school district or charter completes to plan. An implementation check reviews obstacles and progress. High quality professional learning follows the state standards in Section 53G-11-303. The law is effective May 6, 2026.
The Utah State Board of Education sets standards for a digital skills course in grade 7 or 8. Beginning with the 2027-2028 school year, any district or charter that offers this course follows these standards. The law is effective May 6, 2026. The law does not require every district or charter to offer the course.
