2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.
Beginning January 1, 2027, any business that services CO2 systems must be licensed by the state fire marshal. Individuals who work on CO2 systems must be certified. A fire officer is exempt. A trainee is exempt for up to 45 business days if supervised by a certified person. To get licensed or certified, file the board’s form, show competency under its rules, and pay the set fee.
The law creates a state program to license companies and certify workers who handle CO2 systems. The Utah Fire Prevention Board makes the rules, creates the application forms, and sets fees. A CO2 system means equipment that stores, uses, or dispenses 100 pounds or more of CO2, including connected pipes, fittings, signs, and gas detectors. These definitions and rulemaking duties take effect May 6, 2026.
