Beginning with tax year 2026, Utah gives a nonrefundable $1,000 credit for each qualifying child. The child must be under age 6 at year-end and also count for the federal Child Tax Credit. The credit phases out by $0.10 for each $1 of modified adjusted gross income over: $61,000 if married filing jointly; $49,000 if single or head of household; $30,500 if married filing separately. For this credit, MAGI equals your adjusted gross income plus any interest not in AGI and any Utah additions to income. Utah uses its standard rules for joint and head of household, and treats spouses who file separate federal returns as married filing separately; extra credit cannot be refunded or carried forward.
