5 provisions identified: 3 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.
Beginning January 1, 2027, the law sets age-based minimum parent-time when parents do not agree. Under 5 months: three 2‑hour visits each week, plus 2 holiday hours. 5–9 months: three 3‑hour visits each week, plus 2 holiday hours. 9–12 months: one 8‑hour and one 3‑hour visit each week, plus 8 holiday hours. 12–18 months: a weekly 3‑hour visit, an 8‑hour visit on alternating weekends, an overnight on opposite weekends (Fri 6 p.m.–Sat noon), plus 8 holiday hours. 18 months–3 years: one weekday evening; alternating weekends (Fri 6 p.m.–Sun 7 p.m.); up to two one‑week extended periods at least four weeks apart, with limited weekday sharing for the custodial parent during the interrupted week. 3–5 years: the same weekday and weekend pattern; up to two two‑week extended periods at least four weeks apart, with similar weekday sharing during the interrupted period. For infants under nine months, visits happen in the custodial home, regular child‑care, or another familiar place unless parents agree otherwise.
Beginning January 1, 2027, the Juneteenth parent‑time period for ages 5–18 has set times. It usually runs June 18 at 7 p.m. to June 20 at 7 p.m., with special hours if Father’s Day falls on June 19 or June 20. For child support, when the optional parent‑time schedule is used, it counts as 145 overnights per year. This number is used in support calculations and can change what is owed.
Beginning January 1, 2027, if the child is nine months or older, the noncustodial parent gets at least two brief phone contacts each week at reasonable times. Virtual parent‑time is also available when parents live at least 100 miles apart and equipment is reasonably available. If parents disagree about equipment, the court decides based on the child’s best interests and who can handle the costs.
Beginning January 1, 2027, Utah recognizes June 19 (Juneteenth National Freedom Day) as a legal state holiday. When June 19 falls on a weekend, the state uses its normal rules to pick the observed weekday. This affects work schedules and time off for state employees and others who follow Utah’s holiday calendar.
Beginning January 1, 2027, a parent must give at least 30 days’ notice before using extended parent‑time options for a child under five. This covers the specific extended periods listed in the law so both parents can plan care and travel.
