3 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 1 costs, 2 mixed.
Contractor licensees must complete six hours of approved training every two years. If your renewal cycle ends on or after January 1, 2020, you may count up to one hour on energy conservation. HVAC specialty contractors must spend at least three of the six hours on installing, repairing, or replacing HVAC systems. The Division identifies a landscape specialty. Those landscape contractors must take at least one hour on water‑wise landscaping or fire‑risk landscaping each cycle.
The Division may contract for a registry that lists approved courses and shows each licensee’s completed hours. You can use the registry to check if you meet the training requirement. The Division may charge a fee to run these training requirements. The amount is set under Section 63J-1-504.
The Construction Trades Licensing Commission, with the Division, sets the approved course program by rule. Only courses from a named list of trade groups may qualify, and those groups generally market classes only to their members. Narrow exceptions let some groups offer specific classes to nonmembers in electrical, plumbing, or HVAC trades. The program may also include courses from state agencies, the state workers’ compensation insurer, and accredited colleges with a Utah campus.
