3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.
The State Board sets the number of school days or equivalent hours. Districts and charters may move up to 32 instructional hours (four school days) into teacher prep or training. A two‑thirds board vote at a public meeting is required, and parents get at least 90 days’ notice. Time in approved tech‑enhanced classes counts for attendance, but time watching ads does not. These rules take effect July 1, 2026.
The State Board sets fee rules for online students in district activities. Online students pay the same participation fees as other students and can get waivers under existing rules. The online school must pay part of the district’s activity costs, based on average state and local per‑student funding, not including building costs. The Board may set uniform statewide fees using average costs. This starts July 1, 2026.
An online student is eligible for activities at the school where the custodial parent lives, unless the student already gained athletic eligibility at another public school in grade 9 or 10. The student may also join at the school they left to go online. Other schools may allow participation if the student meets the same initial eligibility, entry, and enrollment rules. Online students follow the same standards as full‑time students, and schools cannot add extra requirements. Online students may try out for competitive teams. These rules begin July 1, 2026.
