Psychedelic PTSD therapy study for veterans

The law creates a clinical study for Utah veterans with treatment‑resistant PTSD. The Huntsman Mental Health Institute runs it and can use state funds and donations. The study tests psychedelic‑assisted therapy with trauma‑informed counseling. Before enrolling anyone, Huntsman must get an FDA IND, DEA and state controlled‑substance approvals, IRB approval, and keep full protocol, drug, safety, and therapy‑fidelity plans with a grievance process. It reports progress when asked and files a final report by the Utah Health and Human Services Interim Committee’s first November meeting after the study ends.

Funding and end date for study

Starting May 6, 2026, Huntsman can accept gifts, grants, and donations to help pay for the study. The Institute must start by January 1, 2027 if total state and donated funds are enough, as the Institute decides. If funds are not enough by then, it keeps taking donations and must start when funds are sufficient; it may use post‑2027 donations to continue the study. Any donated money left unused must be returned to donors by July 1, 2032. The state law that authorizes the study ends on July 1, 2032.
