Utah updates building and wildfire codes for 2027

Beginning January 1, 2027, Utah adopts the 2024 wildland‑urban interface code statewide. It also adopts the 2021 International Building, Residential, Plumbing, Mechanical, Fuel Gas, Energy Conservation, and Existing Building Codes, the residential pool and spa rules, the 2023 National Electrical Code, and related HUD, manufactured home, and modular standards. Local permits and construction in covered areas must follow these editions. These updates improve safety and wildfire protection but can increase costs for builders and property owners.

Historic plaster rules limited to subsidized work

Starting January 1, 2027, the Interior Department plaster standards apply only when a project uses public money, gives the owner a tax subsidy for historic status, or the property is government‑owned. Private owners without those ties do not have to follow those plaster rules. Owners who take tax credits or public funds must still comply.
