Beginning July 1, 2026, the state creates the Wildlife Crossing Account in the transportation fund. It gets money from certain sales and use tax deposits, legislative appropriations, voluntary donations at wildlife permits and vehicle registration, and private gifts. The account keeps the interest it earns. The department can fund overpasses, underpasses, fencing, escape ramps, mapping, and other wildlife and habitat projects. The department consults the Division of Wildlife Resources and others, and the commission sets project priorities. The executive director can carry funds over years for bigger projects. At least 10% of the account goes to livestock‑related safety projects.
Beginning July 1, 2026, you can add a voluntary donation for wildlife crossings when you register or renew a vehicle. If you apply for covered wildlife permits, you can also choose to donate. These donations are optional and are not fees. The agency keeps actual collection costs and sends the rest to the Wildlife Crossing Account. You pay only if you choose to give, and your fees and eligibility do not change.
