On July 1, 2026, the Department of Public Safety gives a $278,000 direct grant to the Utah Pediatric Trauma Network. The money comes from the state General Fund for fiscal year 2027. It supports pediatric readiness work defined in state law.
Beginning May 6, 2026, every emergency department, including satellite sites, must follow child-focused care policies. Policies cover triage, vital signs, weighing kids in kilograms, pediatric dosing, using child-size equipment, and age-appropriate care. Staff get hands-on pediatric training every year. Pediatric drills happen at least every six months. Each emergency department names a licensed pediatric emergency care coordinator to run these policies and training.
Beginning May 6, 2026, hospitals must complete the National Pediatric Readiness Assessment on the national schedule. They must send results to the state bureau by December 31 of the assessment year. Hospitals may use the Open Assessment in off years. The bureau collects overall scores and may publish statewide aggregate results. The bureau also sets minimum pediatric standards by rule for equipment, staff training, quality checks, and reporting.
