Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

Lower fees and repayments for public safety employers

Beginning May 6, 2026, the trust fund's revenue and interest, after admin costs, lower the employer fee for survivor health coverage. The board can also repay employers for premiums or HSA contributions they paid for a surviving spouse and dependent children, but only for amounts paid on or after May 1, 2024 and before May 7, 2025. This help applies to employers that pay the fee under the survivor health coverage program.

Trust fund for fallen responders' families

The law creates the Local Public Safety and Firefighter Surviving Spouse Trust Fund. It holds fees, donations, grants, and other revenue for surviving spouses and dependent children and earns interest. Deposits are irrevocable, and creditors cannot take the fund's money. Reasonable costs to run the fund are paid from the fund. These rules start May 6, 2026.
