Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 2 mixed.

Resident tuition waived for Purple Heart undergrads

Beginning May 6, 2026, Utah colleges waive resident undergraduate tuition for Purple Heart recipients who are Utah residents. You must be admitted full-time, part-time, or in summer to a degree or certificate program. You must get verification from the Utah Department of Veterans and Military Affairs. The waiver covers resident tuition only and does not cover fees.

Up to $15,000 grad tuition for Purple Heart vets

Beginning May 6, 2026, Utah graduate programs waive resident tuition for Utah Purple Heart recipients who are admitted to a degree program and provide verification. The total graduate tuition waived per person is capped at $15,000. The waiver lasts no longer than the time to finish the degree or five years after acceptance, whichever is less. It applies to resident tuition charges.

Waiver start date and school reimbursement

This law takes effect May 6, 2026. All tuition waivers start on that date. The Board of Higher Education can ask the Legislature to repay schools for waiver costs. This act itself does not provide money.
