2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.
Beginning May 6, 2026, if a creditor speeds up a closed-end loan and gets a court judgment, your unpaid balance is set as if you paid in full on the judgment date. The judgment then earns interest at the contract rate you agreed to.
Beginning May 6, 2026, you can pay off a closed-end consumer loan early without a prepayment penalty. A prepayment penalty means a fee for paying before the due date; it is not the same as a prepaid finance charge under federal rules. Prepaid finance charges you agree are nonrefundable up to 5% of the original principal are fully earned on day one; any amount above 5% is earned over the loan and the unearned part is rebated if you prepay. For closed-end loans with a junior lien on a home that are not covered by the federal high‑cost loan rule, any prepaid finance charge is fully earned on day one. Third‑party charges are not rebated unless the lender gets a rebate, and your payoff balance includes only earned finance charges, unpaid principal, and earlier delinquency or deferral charges, figured by the actuarial or United States Rule methods.
