Anabolic steroids made for implants in cattle or other animals are not controlled substances if approved for that use by the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services. This removes controlled‑drug rules for those implants. It helps farmers and makers of these products with simpler compliance.
When the FDA approves a medicine that contains any part of marijuana and the DEA assigns it a federal schedule, Utah puts it in the same schedule. This includes FDA‑approved products with THC or cannabidiol. The law also notes gabapentin in this alignment rule. This reduces rule mismatches for makers, prescribers, and patients.
All parts of this law take effect on May 6, 2026. That is when the new drug schedules and the livestock implant exemption begin in Utah.
The law re-lists which drugs are in Schedules I through V. It covers many opioids, stimulants, hallucinogens, and cannabinoids, and includes their salts and isomers. These lists control making, prescribing, dispensing, and possession in Utah. Doctors, pharmacists, patients, and law enforcement follow the new classifications.
