Beginning July 1, 2026, "public school" uses the same meaning as Section 53G-9-205.1. The law defines a parent‑accessible monitoring system as a platform that lets parents review a student’s activity on school‑managed devices. It defines a preapproved content filtering system as allowing only websites the board or administrator approves. These definitions clarify who is covered and the tools schools must use.
Beginning July 1, 2026, local boards develop and adopt internet access policies in open meetings and set start dates. They review each policy at least every three years and note the last review date. Schools post a clear notice of the policy, and boards may send extra public notices. The policy explains how the board meets the law and says staff enforcement procedures exist. It also says complaint procedures exist and are available to review at the school.
Beginning July 1, 2026, school policies must block obscene online material. Parents can require a preapproved filtering system on a school‑approved device. Schools must provide a parent‑accessible monitoring system for school‑managed devices. These rules increase parental oversight of student internet use.
