More addiction treatment in Virginia jails

The law creates a state fund to expand addiction treatment and reentry help in local and regional jails. The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services runs it and must set grant rules with sheriffs and regional jails. Money can pay for planning and running services like medication-assisted treatment, recovery programs, and transitional support before release. The fund can receive state appropriations and private gifts, keeps interest, and rolls over each year. Grant applicants must show a plan to become self-supporting during the grant, and grants cannot replace existing program funding.
