Developers can pay for faster permits
The law lets the Department of Planning and Natural Resources offer expedited building permits when a developer asks and pays. To start expedited review, you must pay the full plan review fee and 75% of the total permit fee upfront. The remaining balance, which DPNR may recalculate, is due when the permit is issued. The Commissioner sets a fee schedule that reflects project size, scope, complexity, and urgency. DPNR must post the rates by project type online and notify the public when the schedule changes. DPNR collects these fees and uses them to improve permit processing and related services.
