State licenses for DACA workers with permits

DACA recipients with an unexpired DHS work permit can get any Wisconsin occupational license, no matter their citizenship. It applies only if your DACA was granted before the law’s effective date, and both your DACA and work permit are unexpired. Licensing boards must verify your work permit through DHS’s SAVE system before issuing a license. Your license lasts only while your work permit is valid; if it expires first, the license ends the same day. To renew, first renew the work permit, tell the board, and meet normal renewal rules. If DHS withdraws your work permit, you must stop practicing at once and tell the board right away. Boards may raise fees only to cover the exact cost of federal ID collection for verification, and all other training, exams, background checks, and fees still apply. This law does not make you eligible for other public benefits.
