Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 0 costs, 3 mixed.

Funding authority and hard end date

The law creates a continuing funding line at WEDC to support the board’s work. The schedule shows $0 for 2025–26 and $0 for 2026–27. WEDC can spend money at the board’s direction and for administrative support. The board must end no later than 180 days after the summit and give leftover property to UW–Madison’s nuclear engineering program. On July 1, 2030, the statutes for the board, its funding line, and the summit duties are repealed.

New board to run nuclear summit

The law creates the Nuclear Power Summit Board. Voting members are two senators, two representatives, the WEDC CEO or designee, and one governor appointee. Industry and UW–Madison experts serve as nonvoting advisers named by the WEDC CEO. The board elects a chair at its first meeting and meets at least once in 2025 and at least three times each year after. Meetings and records are open to the public. The board is exempt from certain state purchasing rules.

Wisconsin nuclear summit and fees

The board must hold a Wisconsin nuclear power summit in Madison. It happens no later than one month after instruction starts at the new UW–Madison College of Engineering building. Attendees will have access to that building. The board may set different registration fees. It may also let Wisconsin residents attend for free.
