Higher fees for death records and cremation permits

Some county boards can raise two fees: signing a death record and issuing a cremation permit. Each fee can be up to $100 higher than the April 17, 2015 amount. This is a one-time change and ignores inflation indexing. It only applies if the county switched from a coroner or lay examiner to a physician medical examiner through an intergovernmental agreement during one of these windows: after December 31, 2015 and before April 1, 2016; or after December 1, 2024 and before July 1, 2025. Counties with more than 300,000 people are excluded.
