Summary

The Corporation can give help to qualified applicants who apply under the program’s application rules for planning, starting, running, or growing national service programs. Planning help can last up to 1 year. Help to start, operate, or expand a program can last up to 3 years and can be renewed if the applicant submits a new application. Expanding a proven program to a new area follows the same 3-year, renewable rule. If a State or any other grantee plans to use the funds to run a grant program that supports other national service programs, these same rules must be followed.

(a)The Corporation may provide assistance under section 12571 of this title to a qualified applicant that submits an application under section 12582 of this title for the planning of a national service program. Assistance provided in accordance with this subsection may cover a period of not more than 1 year.
(b)The Corporation may provide assistance under section 12571 of this title to a qualified applicant that submits an application under section 12582 of this title for the establishment, operation, or expansion of a national service program. Assistance provided in accordance with this subsection may cover a period of not more than 3 years, but may be renewed by the Corporation upon consideration of a new application under section 12582 of this title.
(c)The Corporation may provide assistance under section 12571 of this title to a qualified applicant that submits an application under section 12582 of this title for the expansion of a proven national service program to another geographical location. Assistance provided in accordance with this subsection may cover a period of not more than 3 years, but may be renewed by the Corporation upon consideration of a new application under section 12582 of this title.
(d)The requirements of this section shall apply to any State or other applicant receiving assistance under section 12571 of this title that proposes to conduct a grant program using the assistance to support other national service programs.
