One-Time $25M Grants for Small Rural Hospitals

HRSA will distribute $25,000,000 in FY2026 to eligible rural hospitals that have no more than 50 acute care inpatient beds and an established wage index value under 0.90. Payments will be divided equally among hospitals that apply; up to 10% of each hospital's award may be used for administrative expenses. Eligible hospitals must apply through Grants.gov by July 1, 2026, and HRSA estimates about 167 hospitals may qualify, which is roughly $148,000 per hospital if all 167 apply.

Helps Rural Communities Keep Local Care

The program is intended to support rural communities by helping small hospitals maintain health care services in HRSA-designated rural areas. HRSA identified a preliminary list of hospitals across 13 states that meet the criteria, and funds will be awarded only to hospitals that apply by July 1, 2026.
