FAA Orders Stabilizer Checks on Embraer Business Jets

Published Date: 6/1/2026

Rule

Summary

If you own or operate certain Embraer EMB-505 airplanes, the FAA wants you to check and possibly fix parts of the horizontal stabilizer to keep flights safe. This new rule starts July 6, 2026, and could mean inspecting and replacing some hinge points and pitch trim parts. It’s all about making sure your plane’s controls work perfectly, with some costs and work to get it done on time.

Analyzed Economic Effects

7 provisions identified: 3 benefits, 4 costs, 0 mixed.

Mandatory HS backlash inspection and fixes

If you own or operate certain Embraer Model EMB-505 airplanes, you must inspect the left- and right-hand horizontal stabilizer (HS) backlash and, if needed, replace hinge point attachment parts, pitch trim actuator rod-end attachment parts, and the pitch trim actuator. This AD is effective July 6, 2026, and requires following the actions and compliance times in ANAC AD 2025-04-01 as incorporated by reference.

Estimated per-airplane costs and industry totals

The FAA estimates an inspection cost of $1,360 per airplane and a high-case cost (inspection plus all conditional repairs) of $14,950 per airplane. The AD affects 41 U.S.-registered EMB-505 airplanes with a low-case total industry cost of $55,760 and a high-case total of $612,950.

Manufacturer warranty may cover costs

According to the manufacturer, all costs of this AD may be covered under warranty, which could reduce the financial impact on affected operators.

Specified inspection deadlines for groups

Group 1 airplanes must be inspected within 12 months or 750 flight hours, and Group 2 airplanes must be inspected within 24 months or 1,000 flight hours, using the effective date of this AD (July 6, 2026) where ANAC AD 2025-04-01 refers to its effective date.

No reporting required to manufacturer

Although the ANAC material referenced in the AD asks operators to submit information to the manufacturer, this FAA AD explicitly states it does not require any reporting.

Stricter approval for alternative parts

Where ANAC AD 2025-04-01 allowed Embraer approval for alternative or similar parts, this FAA AD requires approval from the Manager, International Validation Branch, FAA; ANAC; or ANAC's authorized Designee (including the Designee's signature) for those alternative parts.

Credit for earlier Embraer service bulletin work

Operators receive AD credit if they performed the required actions before the effective date using Embraer Service Bulletin No. 505-27-0034, dated September 19, 2024, or Revision 01, dated October 4, 2024.
