3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

State/Local Taxes Preempted on Tribal Leases

If you lease or build permanent improvements on Peoria tribal trust land, State and local governments may not tax the permanent improvements, leasehold or possessory interests, or activities under the lease. The Department states this Federal preemption applies to leases entered under the Tribe's HEARTH Act-approved leasing regulations.

Tribe Can Approve Business Leases Locally

If you are a member of the Peoria Tribe or a business that leases Peoria tribal land, the Tribe was authorized on May 21, 2026 to enter into business leases without needing further approval from the Secretary of the Interior. This lets the Tribe approve leases faster and gives the Tribe more control over its land and economic development.

Peoria Tribe May Tax Lease Interests

Improvements, leasehold or possessory interests, and activities on Peoria tribal trust land may be subject to taxation by the Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma. That means a lessee could owe tribal taxes on those lease-related interests even though State and local taxes are preempted.
