Temporary 100‑Yard Safety Zone
On July 2, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., a safety zone covers all navigable waters within a 100‑yard radius of the SSV NIAGARA in Presque Isle Bay, Erie, PA. You may not enter that zone during those two hours unless you get permission from the Captain of the Port; to request permission, contact VHF‑FM channel 16 or call (888) 230‑4703.
Confined Harbor Operating Exception
If there is not enough navigable water outside the safety zone (confined harbor or channel), vessels may be permitted to operate within the zone but must travel at the minimum speed needed to maintain a safe course. Vessels operating under this exception may not come within 25 yards of the SSV NIAGARA unless they receive authorization from the Captain of the Port or a designated representative.
Moored Vessels Must Remain Stationary
When the SSV NIAGARA approaches a moored or anchored vessel within the safety zone on July 2, 2026, that stationary vessel must remain moored or anchored while it is within the SSV NIAGARA's safety zone unless the Captain of the Port, a designated representative, or an on‑scene patrol officer gives permission to do otherwise. Those vessels must follow any lawful orders from the COTP or designated representative.
