5 provisions identified: 3 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

Award size: $100K–$300K; 18–22 grants

The BIA expects to make approximately 18 to 22 awards, with individual awards ranging from $100,000 to $300,000 for a one-year period of performance. Grants will fund implementation-ready workforce programs that lead directly to employment, apprenticeships, or industry-recognized credentials.

IGNITE grants for Tribal organizations

If you are a Federally Recognized Indian Tribe or a Tribal organization, you may apply for the FY 2026 IGNITE discretionary grant pilot program. Eligible applicants include Federally Recognized Indian Tribes, Tribal organizations acting on behalf of Tribes, and Tribal Consortia as defined in 25 U.S.C. 5304.

Training focused on trades and emerging tech

The IGNITE program supports workforce training that prepares Tribal participants for construction and infrastructure trades and emerging technology sectors such as advanced manufacturing, digital fabrication, artificial intelligence, drone and geospatial systems, and STEM-based training. Successful programs should include training activities, certification programs, apprenticeship readiness, technology-based training, and/or supportive services.

Application timing, limits, and assistance

Only one application per Tribe or Tribal organization will be accepted. The BIA anticipates publishing the NOFO and opening the application period in June 2026, with the period open for approximately 30 days. Grants.gov will not be used, and applicants will be offered virtual webinars and technical assistance once submissions open.

Funds must be used for implementation

You cannot use IGNITE grant funds for planning, feasibility studies, or start-up activities. Funding may be requested only to support program execution and implementation.
