Summary
The FAA proposes to supersede Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2023-07-02, which applies to all Airbus SAS Model A330-200, -300, -800, and -900 series airplanes; and Model A340-200, -300, -500, and -600 series airplanes. AD 2023-07-02 requires replacing the doghouse door lock placard with an improved instruction placard. Since the FAA issued AD 2023-07-02, it was determined that additional parts need to be modified. This proposed AD would continue to require the actions in AD 2023-07-02 and would expand the list of affected parts. This proposed AD would also prohibit the installation of affected parts under certain conditions. The FAA is proposing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products.

Replace doghouse placards on Airbus fleet
If you operate the listed Airbus A330 or A340 models, the FAA proposes you must replace the doghouse door lock placard with an improved instruction placard and modify an expanded list of affected parts as required by EASA AD 2025-0216 (dated October 1, 2025). The rule is intended to fix unclear instructions that could cause latch failure and block access to emergency equipment.
Estimated compliance cost per airplane
The FAA estimates the work to replace the placard will take 2 work-hours at $85 per hour (labor $170) plus parts costing $100, for a total estimated cost of $270 per airplane. The FAA estimates this proposed AD would affect 59 U.S.-registered airplanes for a combined estimated cost of $15,930.
Prohibition on installing affected parts
The proposed AD would prohibit installation of doghouses (affected parts) that have incorrect instruction placards under specified conditions as set out in EASA AD 2025-0216 (dated October 1, 2025). Operators must not install parts that do not have the required improved placard where the AD prohibits such installations.
Manufacturer warranty may cover costs
The FAA notes the manufacturer reports some or all costs of this proposed AD may be covered under warranty, which could reduce the out-of-pocket cost for affected operators. The FAA did not assume warranty coverage when estimating the $270 per-airplane cost.

In July 2025, President Trump signed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Section 40002 of that law re-institutes the Federal Communications Commission's general auction authority and specifically directs the Commission to complete a system of competitive bidding for not less than 100 megahertz in the 3.98-4.2 gigahertz band (Upper C- band). This final rule supports the Federal Communications Commission's July 2026 Report and Order that makes 160 megahertz of the Upper C-band available for terrestrial wireless flexible use via a system of competitive bidding. To ensure safe, efficient, and reliable aviation operations in the presence of wireless signals in the C-band, the Federal Aviation Administration is issuing new regulations that require all radio altimeters to meet specific minimum performance requirements. These new radio altimeters must withstand interference from wireless signals in neighboring spectrum bands and continue to provide accurate altitude readings to both pilots and integrated aircraft safety systems. These regulations require all aircraft equipped with radio altimeters operating under part 121 and those aircraft with radio altimeters operating under part 129 with 30 or more passenger seats or a payload capacity of more than 7,500 pounds to comply with the minimum performance requirements by December 30, 2030, which is prior to the date the Federal Communications Commission authorizes the use of the Upper C-band for new wireless services, as stated in its Report and Order. All other aircraft equipped with radio altimeters that are required to comply with part 91, including aircraft operating under parts 125, 133, 135, 136, 137, 194, and all other aircraft operating under part 129 that are not subject to the initial deadline, must comply with the same minimum performance requirements on or before October 31, 2034.

This proposed AD was prompted by reports of fuel leakage near rib 6 during production pressure testing. An investigation found oversized holes in a certain outboard shear-tie. This proposed AD would require an inspection of the fasteners and fastener holes at rib 6 for discrepancies and applicable on-condition actions. The FAA is proposing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products.

This proposed AD would require, depending on airplane configuration, modifying the hydraulic monitoring and control application (HMCA), accomplishing applicable concurrent requirements, revising the existing airplane flight manual (AFM), and replacing affected parts. This proposed AD would also prohibit the installation of affected parts and prohibit the installation of certain HMCA software. The FAA is proposing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products.
