Counties eligible for BIT3 bridge grants

If your county owns a Type 3 bridge that crosses a U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) water conveyance structure, the county may apply for the Type 3 Highway Bridge Replacement and Rehabilitation (BIT3) competitive grant program established by the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2026. The FHWA announced the Notice of Funding Opportunity for up to $25,000,000 in Fiscal Year 2026 grants; FHWA expects roughly 50 applicants and the NOFO will be available on grants.gov.

BIT3 grants cover 100% of project cost

For BIT3 projects, the Federal share is 100 percent and requires no local match. That means eligible county projects awarded under the FY2026 BIT3 funding (up to $25,000,000 total announced) would not require a local matching contribution.
