Sponsored By: Senator Braun, Mike [R-IN]
Became Law
Summary
Connects separating service members with health care training to VA job openings. This law requires the Department of Veterans Affairs, in consultation with the Department of Defense, to run a program that identifies members of the Armed Forces who hold health care occupations and refers interested individuals to VA recruiters for positions in their specialty and preferred location. Referrals may be made up to one year before a member separates. The law clarifies a referral is not a guarantee of employment and requires the VA to report on the program to the armed services and veterans affairs committees within one and two years of enactment.

Job referrals for separating military health workers
The Department of Veterans Affairs, working with the Department of Defense, now identifies service members with health care jobs as they separate. If an identified member wants a VA health job, VA refers them to a recruiter for openings in their specialty and location. Referrals can start up to one year before separation. A referral does not guarantee a job. VA must report to Congress on the program one year and two years after enactment.
