Ghost Army Congressional Gold Medal Act
Sponsored By: Senator Markey, Edward J. [D-MA]
Became Law
Summary
This law awards a Congressional Gold Medal to the 23d Headquarters Special Troops and the 3133d Signal Service Company, known as the Ghost Army, in recognition of their World War II deception operations in Europe. The Secretary of the Treasury will strike the gold medal with suitable emblems and inscriptions and give it to the Smithsonian for display and research, with a sense of Congress that the Smithsonian should make the medal available for display at other locations tied to the Ghost Army. The Secretary may also strike and sell duplicate bronze medals at prices that cover production costs, and the United States Mint Public Enterprise Fund will pay the medal costs and receive proceeds from duplicate sales.

Gold Medal honors Ghost Army
Congress awards a Congressional Gold Medal to the Ghost Army units from World War II. Treasury designs and strikes the medal. Congressional leaders arrange the award. The Smithsonian gets the medal for display and research, and is encouraged to share it at related sites.
Bronze copies available for collectors
Treasury can make and sell bronze copies of the medal. Buyers pay a price that covers all costs. Sale money goes to the U.S. Mint Public Enterprise Fund, which also pays production costs. These medals are treated as national medals and as numismatic items under federal law.
