118-hr-5646, Stop Campus Hazing Act
Hazing reporting and prevention is expanded across colleges that participate in federal student aid programs. The law requires those institutions to collect and report hazing incidents, use a broader definition of hazing, and publish clear prevention and policy statements. - Students and families: Colleges must include hazing incidents reported to campus security authorities or local police in their annual security reports, giving students and families clearer counts and context. - Student organizations and members: Any student group with two or more members is covered, and the definition now lists acts such as whipping, beating, electronic shocking, placing harmful substances on the body, sleep deprivation, confinement, extreme calisthenics, coerced substance use, coerced sexual acts, threats, and tasks involving criminal activity as hazing. - Institutions and campus policy: Schools must add statements about hazing policies, reporting and investigation processes, applicable local, state, and Tribal laws, and prevention programs like bystander intervention and ethical leadership. The requirements take effect six months after enactment and apply to the second calendar-year security report following that date.

118-hr-82, Social Security Fairness Act of 2023
Repeals the Government Pension Offset and the Windfall Elimination Provision to restore Social Security benefits for many public‑sector retirees. It removes statutory cross‑references to those rules and directs the Social Security Administration to update benefit calculations and payments. - Public‑sector retirees with pensions from jobs not covered by Social Security will stop having their spousal or survivor benefits reduced. Many people who lost part of their Social Security because of these offsets can see higher monthly checks. - Workers whose own Social Security benefits were cut by the Windfall Elimination Provision will no longer face that penalty when their benefit is computed. That raises the primary insurance amount used to set their monthly benefit. - The Social Security Administration must adjust primary insurance amounts and monthly insurance benefits for months after December 2023, so changes take effect starting January 2024.
