To amend title 28, United States Code, to consolidate certain divisions in the Northern District of Alabama.
Sponsored By: Representative Strong, Dale W. [R-AL-5]
Became Law
Summary
This law consolidates the Northern District of Alabama’s federal judicial divisions from seven to five, changing which counties are grouped in each division. Lauderdale and Lawrence are now grouped together. Marshall is added after Madison and Decatur is removed. One division’s list is expanded to include Cherokee, Clay, Cleburne, DeKalb, Etowah, and Saint Clair. Another division keeps Greene, Pickens, Sumter, and Tuscaloosa and gains Fayette, Lamar, Marion, Walker, and Winston. Two former divisions are stricken. The statute preserves the standard signature lines for the Speaker and the Vice President or President of the Senate.
